Hair-raiser...
I started off my career selling hairdressing products in London in 1986, complete with shell suit, so in addition to the ACII, I also have professional qualifications in tinting and perming.
Big headache...
I played football for 21 years on Saturday afternoons at various levels and on one memorable - or not so memorable as it turned out - occasion, while trying to round the goalkeeper, I received an accidental punch to the head that knocked me out, gave me concussion and resulted in me losing my short term memory just three days before my ACII exams. Suffice to say I missed the goal but, by some miracle, still managed to pass the exams!
Egg chaser...
Not having played rugby since school, in 2001 I found myself on a rugby tour to Estonia, playing for Maidenhead RFC. The final match of the tour was against the national Estonian side, and we beat them. I played on the wing and spent the match trying to stay out of the way of the extremely large and formidable opposition. It certainly reaffirmed my love for the round ball!
Gandhi in disguise...
My favourite quotation – the one I find most inspirational – is 'Be the change you want to see in the world!' I think it’s self explanatory…
Moral lesson...
From an underwriting perspective, I think the greatest lesson I have learned in my 13 years in underwriting is to trust my instincts...if it seems to good to be true, it invariably is.
