Allianz’s finance boss says state must help in “unlikely” event

Allianz’s chief financial officer Helmut Perlet said governments would have to rescue a major European insurer if one collapsed but that it was unlikely to happen, Dow Jones reports.

When asked if the state should intervene in case an insurer really faces a collapse, he said: "That should be answered with a yes, when the collapse of an insurer would trigger a chain reaction."

He said it was “very unlikely”.
