Ecclesiastical has revamped its care home policy.

The updated Care Sector policy has been developed in line with independent research carried out by Charterhouse, which highlighted the fact that the care home industry is looking for Medical Malpractice, Abuse and Trustee Indemnity cover.

These three covers have been included in the new policy, which incorporates:

• £2m medical treatment risk cover for the home and its nurses
• £5000 All Risks cover for any property, including residents' property, anywhere in the UK
• £5m Public Liability cover (Extendable to £10m) to include Abuse
• Trustee Indemnity up to £25,000 for charity-run homes
• Business interruption now includes £25,000 additional costs of working.

Other features include cover for residents' personal liability, contract works, and loss of registration legal expenses. Engineering cover for machinery (including computers) is also available.

Ecclesiastical's chief underwriting manager, Chris Lees, said: "We have always been close to the caring professions, and already insure a significant number of the care homes in this country. This new policy shows that we listen closely to our customers, and are in it for the long term."
