The government will announce its framework for vocational rehabilitation on 27 October, following a consultation earlier this year.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) said the consultation was launched with the aim of creating a universal definition of what vocational rehabilitation was, and to provide a framework upon which the provision of rehabilitation could be better understood and delivered.

But insurers feel the consultation did not go far enough. "Definitions are all well and good but what is really required is a joined-up approach from the DWP and NHS," one insurance executive said.
