Maddock will take on the role from 4 March
Direct Line Group claims and business services managing director Steve Maddock has been named as the new chairman of the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB).
Maddock will formally take on the role from 4 March. This follows the retirement of Sabre Insurance chair Keith Morris who was appointed to the MIB board in September 2005 and as chairman in 2007.
Maddock has been an active member on MIB’s board and audit committee most recently since June 2011 and previously between June 2004 and January 2010.
Commenting on his appointment, Maddock said: “I am looking forward to working with the directors, management and MIB members in the fight against those who choose to drive without insurance.
“The partnerships with industry, government, police and enforcement agencies are vital to tackling this problem. While much has been achieved already there is no room for complacency.”
Morris has been credited with overseeing a substantial amount of change in the organisation.
MIB chief executive Ashton West said: “MIB has benefited immensely from Keith’s active participation in a number of business efficiency programmes and industry initiatives.
“The industry will continue to enjoy the benefits of his contribution for many years. We now look forward to benefiting from Steve’s knowledge and experience to help guide and support further progress in the coming years.”
Morris added: “It has been a privilege working with the board members and MIB team and I have great pleasure handing over the mantle to Steve. There has been substantial progress and success in reducing the level and impact of uninsured driving in the UK.
“Today, MIB is a very different organisation to what it was nearly a decade ago. It has undergone a transformation in terms of being more efficient and effective in its core functions and now undertakes a range of managed services on behalf of the industry.”
