A Dalek's cries of “exterminate, exterminate” were little protection against a drunken man who ripped its head off and carried it into a pub in the centre of Derby.

“A friend of the owner was in it at the time,” said keeper of social and industrial history at Derby City Museums, Roger Shelley. “She was unhurt.”

Shelley said the damage to the Dalek, which is insured for £24,000, was around £500.

The sci-fi star was in Derby as part of an exhibition which also featured Dr Who's dog, K9.
