DAS UK has today acquired Amicus Legal Limited and its subsidiary companies.
Based in Colchester, Amicus was established in 1998 as a specialist legal protection underwriting agency. Amicus Legal has a particular focus on the provision of marine legal protection, group schemes for professional associations and bespoke after the event (ATE) products, marketed through solicitors.
As part of the DAS Group, all 30 Amicus staff will continue to operate from Colchester, with the brand being retained.
Paul Asplin, chief executive of DAS said: "We are delighted to have acquired such a well respected company, with excellent prospects for expansion, particularly in the ATE sector, where Amicus have a very strong market position.
"We have exciting plans to develop the Amicus business in the future and have already secured additional office accommodation to allow for future expansion."
The Amicus deal adds around £3m to DAS UK income, but this figure is expected to increase significantly as DAS underwrites new ATE products for Amicus and introduces a deferred premium funding facility which has not previously been available.
