Top theft claim spots in London have changed significantly over the past year – Moneysupermarket
London postcodes continue to dominate the top claim spots for burglaries in the UK, according to research by Moneysupermarket, with seven of the top 10 postcode areas for theft claims located in the capital.
However, the areas with the highest number of burglary insurance claims have changed significantly over the past year – with only two London postcodes from last year remaining on the latest list.
Dagenham leapt up to first place in the 12 months to November 2014, from fourth in 2013, with more than 55 theft claims for every 1,000 home insurance policy quotes.
Manchester, which had previously topped the list, slipped down to third place with 51.8 theft claims for every 1,000 quotes - still more than the 45 reported in 2013.
The London postcodes that have dropped off the top 10 include Herne Hill, Muswell Hill, Upper Edmonton and West Norwood.
Instead, the areas in London with the highest number of burglary claims now include Hadley Wood/New Barnet, Seven Kings/Chigwell, Teddington, Woodford and Gants Hill.
The non-London areas in the top 10 list with the highest numbers of theft claims are in West and South Yorkshire – in 2013 it was the Liverpool areas of Waterloo and Allerton.
Moneysupermarket home insurance expert Kevin Pratt said: “Our annual burglary claims tracker reveals the nation’s burglary claim hotspots, and once again London and Greater London postcodes dominate.
“Burglars often target urban areas where there’s more hustle and bustle and so less risk of being caught, but not surprisingly they also follow the money, which is why affluent areas such as Teddington and Temple Newsam in West Yorkshire appea in the top 20 claims hotspots.”
For its annual burglary claims tracker the aggregator analysed 2.68 million home insurance quotes run on the site.
