St Paul Travelers has awarded the management of claims resulting from last week's Waterloo derailment to Crawford.

Two carriages were derailed from South-West Trains' 17.35 Dorking to Waterloo service, causing damage to the track and platform. There were no injuries as passengers managed to leave the train.

Kevan Brown, claims manager at St Paul Travelers, said: “We have appointed a team of experts to ascertain the extent of the damage and are working with the station's owners to implement the repair process as soon as possible.”

Suzanne Kearney, Crawford's head of casualty — technical, said: “Crawford was instructed to handle this claim on 25 October and our adjusters gained access to the site that day.

“A Class 455 had the last two vehicles derailed. These were further along the line and both upright on the track. At the time of our attendance a 125 yard section of track was being worked upon. It was difficult to establish the precise point at which the point failure/derailment occurred although on the approach to Waterloo two tracks have points serving Platforms 1-7. It appeared that the failed point had been attended to and the works being undertaken was to ensure the other tracks were in gauge. Work has begun already to ensure minimum disruption to rail passengers.

“Crawford will be managing the claim in respect of minimising disruption and taking all steps to bring the station back up to normal working as soon as possible.”
