They invited the arresting officer to the wedding reception
A couple from Bristol agreed to get married in the back of a police car after being pulled over for having no insurance.
Police from the tri-force roads unit pulled the couple over on the M4 in early May.
It was believed the lack of insurance was not intentional, but the car still had to be seized.
Arresting officer, PC Alan King gave the 23-year-old man and 21-year-old woman a lift off the motorway so they could arrange a lift home.
But, while in the back of the police car, the man proposed to the woman, and she said yes.
A police spokesman told Bristol Live: ”Apparently he had been planning on proposing later today, but thought the idea of popping the question in the back of the police car made a great story.”
PC King took some celebratory photos for the couple outside the car.
He told the Swindon Advertiser: “It’s very pleasant for something like this to happen, rather than what we normally have to deal with.
“I wish them all the best for their future.”
The couple invited King to the wedding reception, but he politely declined.
