Group to be led by Barry Smith
The CII has outlined plans to raise standards in general insurance with the launch of a taskforce.
The group will be chaired by Barry Smith, the institute’s deputy president and chief executive of Fortis.
Trevor Matthews, the CII president, was due to tell the annual president’s dinner on Tuesday night after Insurance Times went to press: “Let us be clear – the dark cloud that envelops banking affects us all. The public does not discriminate between different parts of the financial services industry. It is often a ‘plague on all your houses’.
“The CII commissioned an independent study of professional ethics this time last year to consult and discover the views of our members on ethics and integrity and try to benchmark them against best practice in other sectors, as well as against public expectations.
“We plan to publish the report’s finding to ensure there is a rigorous debate both within and beyond our membership.”
