Trevor Matthews succeeds Lord Hunt of Wirral.
Trevor Matthews has been appointed president of the Chartered Insurance Institute, replacing Lord Hunt of Wirral with immediate effect.
Matthews, formerly deputy president of the institiute, was elected at the CII annual general meeting on Wednesday, which also saw Barry Smith, chief execuitive of Fortis UK, appointed his successor.
Matthews said: "I am incredibly excited to have this opportunity especially following on from such an exceptional year with Lord Hunt of Wirral as President. My Presidential theme is “Professionalism – bringing it to life.
“We work in a noble profession and my aim during my year as President is to adopt an ambassadorial role to remind people of the value of what they do. I’m thoroughly looking forward to getting out there and meeting the members, finding out what occupies their thoughts and having a good, constructive exchange of views."
