Cheshire police are targeting drivers with no insurance in a clampdown on uninsured drivers.

The police campaign has seen 22 uninsured drivers arrested and cars seized so far in September. Police have estimated that there are 20,000 uninsured drivers in the region.

Chief inspector Richard Reeves said: “Throughout September officers across Cheshire are focusing on making sure these people are caught and dealt with appropriately in a bid to get the message home that driving without insurance will not be accepted.

“The increasing cost of insurance premiums is affected by the number of claims made every year from people who have been involved in collisions with uninsured drivers.”

Those caught driving without insurance can have vehicles seized and face a fine of £300. Vehicles that are not reclaimed after 14 days can then be sold off at auction.
