Lloyd's insurer hires Mark Lawrence from Argo to head new syndicate 1084 division
Lloyd's insurer Chaucer has created a new international liability division within Chaucer Syndicate 1084.
Chaucer has hired Mark Lawrence to build and lead the new division, which will specialise in international professional and general liability and related classes. He will report to John Fowle, active underwriter of Chaucer Syndicate 1084.
Lawrence will join Chaucer ahead of the division’s formal launch in the final quarter of 2010 when his notice expires at Argo International for Syndicate 1200, where he was joint active underwriter responsible for all casualty business.
John Fowle said: “I am delighted that Mark has agreed to join us to lead this important initiative. Chaucer is committed to the development of new, and expansion of existing, underwriting classes and our intention has always been to develop a market leading underwriting team for non-US liability insurance business. I am pleased to confirm that this Division will be up and running in time for the 2011 underwriting year.”
Bruce Bartell, chief underwriting officer at Chaucer Holdings added: “I am extremely pleased that we have secured the services of such a high calibre and respected market figure. Mark has a wealth of experience which will prove invaluable to Chaucer and I look forward to working with him to develop our new International Liability Division.”
