Centrica has confirmed it is in talks to sell roadside recovery business the AA.

The energy specialist bought the AA for £1.1bn in September 1999 and is now reportedly looking for bids in excess of £1.5bn for the business.

Centrica said it wanted to concentrate on its main utilities business, and has already sold its banking and credit card unit, Goldfish.

The company declined to comment on potential bidders, but said a statement on the sale would be issued in due course, if appropriate.
