Community Broking Group (CBG) is to make three acquisitions in the next 12 months in a bid to double its size.
"We are looking for brokers with £500,000 income or more," CBG chief executive Martin Lewis said. "They are the ones who are not as vulnerable to the cycle."
Lewis wants to consolidate the Manchester broking market by bringing the acquisitions under the CBG brand. The broker is not looking to spread beyond a 50-mile radius of the city. Lewis said its regional position "means there is more awareness of what we are doing, which is important in a soft market".
He added: "The current market will be difficult for smaller brokers; they could be looking for a way out.
"Our core target is the SME market, but we have developed a broader offering so we could jump anywhere."
