A ‘cash for crash fraudster is to be investigated for perjury after making 17 whiplash claims in just eight years.

Mohammed Saeed was on trial at Birmingham County Court after claiming for an ‘accident’ with a National Express coach in March 2011. Judge Simon Brown QC gave the order for an inquiry into all previous whiplash claims after saying he “disbelieved the claimants evidence in its entirety” and ruling that the crash had never happened

Saeed claimed that his parked car had been hit by a coach. He said he caught up with the bus several miles later to inform the driver of the damage to his car. Coach firm National Express disputed the claim and investigations revealed the damage done to the car could not have been caused by the coach.

At the hearing the court heard that the address of the orthopaedic surgeon who had signed Saeed’s medical report was in fact the address of a Brimingham taxi firm.

Judge Brown ordered Saeed to pay £15,700 towards the coach firm’s legal expenses and has asked for a transcript of the hearing to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions to facilitate perjury investigations for all of Saeed’s previous claims.

Saeed’s girlfriend Adele Raven and at least one other person were in the process of claiming compensation for the same incident and Judge Brown added that he found it “incredible” that Saeed has since made another claim.

A spokesman for National Express said: “We always fight claims in which evidence raises serious concerns. We hope this will make anyone thinking of making a dishonest claim think again”.

The company has also said it is willing to make a criminal complaint.
