Budget Group, the UK's third largest personal lines insurance intermediary, has acquired Scottish broker Hara Hill Wason (HHW).

The acquisition adds 6 new high-street outlets to Budget's growing retail arm.

Matthew Donaldson, Budget Group director said: "The Budget Group continues to expand at an extraordinary pace. We will reach 1.4m policies under management and expect to deliver record profits by year-end (June 06)."

He said: "HHW complements our existing retail operation and we look forward to developing the business with the same enthusiasm as the original founders."

HHW has been trading since 1964, has over 17,000 policies under management and offers personal lines insurance including, motor, home, commercial vehicle and motorcycle.

The deal means that Budget will acquire 28 staff operating out of the 6 offices in Airdrie, Coatbridge, Irvine, Motherwell and Paisley.

The acquisition is effective immediately and follows on from a recent deal whereby Budget acquired D.M. Brooks & Company, based in Croydon, Surrey, bringing with them over 1,200 policies.
