Brokers must remind customers of the importance of inspections of equipment, said Allianz Cornhill after an internal survey revealed a rise in serious faults.
Research conducted by engineer surveyors in Alliance Cornhill's engineering insurance and inspection division revealed that:
- 1,700 lifts needed some form of remedial work, such as correcting poor floor levelling or replacing worn landing door operating cords
- 2,200 fork lift trucks were found to have safety defects
- 1,600 motor vehicle lifting tables, many used by garages and tyre specialists, were found to have problems.
Allianz Cornhill said that the research highlighted the need for brokers to discuss the importance of a thorough regulatory inspection regime with their customers.
