A team of three brokers has left Layton Blackham.

Chief executive Chris Blackham confirmed that three brokers who joined Layton Blackham through its acquisition of West London broker Chambers and Newman in 2000 had departed, but declined to verify their names.

However, broking sources named the three as property and general business brokers Alan Smith, Ron Harris and Dave Burdett.

Blackham said the departures were "not material" to the company, but one broking source said the three generated a "substantial" amount of income, putting the figure at around £2m, of mainly property business.

"These brokers own their customers and Layton Blackham is concerned that the value of that acquisition may be eroded," said an insurance company source.
