Brit Insurance Holdings said the results for its motor Syndicate had been outstanding for the 2001 year of account, as it published its results for 2001, and updated forecasts for 2002.

Motor Syndicate 1202 produced a result of 17.2% of capacity, at the top of the 12.55 to 17.5% forecast.

Deputy chef executive officer Dane Douetil said: “The 2002 year shows further improvement on our main Syndicate 2987. All syndicates have been closed for the 2001 year.

“Non-marine Syndicate 250 has shown further deterioration, but Marine Syndicate 735, Aviation Syndicate 800 and Motor Syndicate 1202 have all closed at the best end of the previous forecast range.

“The Motor result is outstanding. The 2002 and 2001 years for Brit's share show an overall improvement from the previously forecast range.

Brit merged Syndicates 735, 250, 800 and 1202 to form Syndicate 2987 on 1 January 2002. It said the forecast for the new Syndicate for 2002 was 11.0% to 16.0%.

It also merged Syndicate 429 into Syndicate 389. The merged Syndicate has a forecast of 5.0% to 10.0% for 2002.

Brit motor Syndicate 2040 has a forecast of 5.0% to 10.0% for 2002, while Syndicate 2400 is forecast to be between 9.0% and 14.0% of capacity for 2002.
