Gab Robins reports 200% rise in claims
Claims for burst pipe and escape of water claims have soared as a result of the freezing weather, according to loss adjuster GAB Robins.
The thaw over the weekend led to a huge increase in the notifications in claims, particularly in the Midlands, Nottinghamshire and Scotland. The Midlands and surrounding counties has seen a 200% rise in claims.
Gab Robins said that service centres were operating as normal with assistance from other offices but that additional staff have been brought in to assist with appointment making and calls to policyholders who require assistance.
The measures adopted so far have included:
• Urgent or serious losses continue to be given priority.
• Adjusters from regions less seriously affected being moved to ‘hot spot’ areas for burst pipe claims e.g. Midlands and Scotland.
• A number of experienced non property adjusters are now assisting in the worst affected areas.
• Arrangements are being made for a large number of adjusters to handle appointments throughout next weekend.
• Additional assistance is being provided to adjusters to ensure reports are issued and activity on existing caseloads continues.
A GAB Robins spokesman said: “We are closely monitoring our performance in making initial contact, arranging appointments and completing visits.
“We have also been able to make contact with policyholders on average within 4.5 hours of receipt of instructions, which we believe is an exceptional achievement on the part of our Service Centre staff given the current volumes being received.”
Met office forecasters have predicted that another cold front is expected to sweep across the country by the middle of the week.
