In part two of his interview with Tom Flack, Eric Galbraith explains how the BIBA conference has changed over the past three decades, and how it may take its influence overseas
The BIBA conference, which returns to Glasgow to celebrate its 30th anniversary, has evolved considerably in recent years.
Having described it as “the networking event” of the insurance calendar, Galbraith says that brokers both large and small have an interest in attending the conference, and should take time out to learn more about the market to help inform their business decisions. He touches upon the creeping influence of Europe and, in turn, the importance of taking BIBA’s agenda overseas.
Galbraith says he hopes the presence of the likes of Bob Geldof and aide to former President Clinton, James Rubin, will play their part in improving the profile of the sector, and welcomes an open discussion on any issues they may have with the role of the broker. He also explains why this year’s seminars are led by experts both from within and outside the sector.
Most importantly of all, Galbraith is quick to allay fears that, after sharing last year’s venue with a wine fair, thirsty brokers may drink the town dry.
