Council saves £68,000 scrapping terrorism cover
Bexley council has dropped its terrorism insurance policy, saving £68,000.
The council first bought the cover in 1992, but now considers the chance of an attack so remote it has scrapped the policy. Bexly has built up an insurance reserve of £3.9m to pay for an attack.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The decision whether to insure against terrorism has always been difficult because of the unpredictable nature of terrorists activities. Bexley is not considered a specific target as there are no iconic buildings, major transport facilities or high profile institutions in the borough.
A survey last year found that only three London boroughs were without a terrorism insurance policy.
