‘We couldn’t make this particular deal work’: David McMillan
Aviva UK & Ireland General Insurance chief executive David McMillan has pledged his support to independent brokers after the news that Aviva is no longer on Broker Network’s panel.
McMillan said: “We’ve got individual relationships with all of the broker network members, and Aviva will continue to have a strong relationship with these local brokers.
“The relationship is in a reasonably good place with Towergate. They continue to be one of our biggest trading partners. But we couldn’t make this particular deal work.”
He added that there were six months of negotiations between Aviva and Towergate before the deal fell through.
He said: “There were several attempts made to get to an agreement, and at the end of the day we agreed to disagree.
“Our philosophy is, we’ve got to try to commit to deals that have a strong chance of making money for our shareholders, end of story.”
Some market sources indicated that Broker Network ended the deal, rather than Aviva, as other sources have said.
