The organising committee for the 2004 Olympic Games has bought a €200m insurance policy for third-party liability risks.
According to a report the cover was provided by Athens-based insurer Agrotiki Insurance SA and reinsured through Lloyd’s and the London market.
Broker Swinglehurst said it worked with a Greek broker and Mar Risk Services to place the policy in the UK.
The policy runs from mid March 2004 until the end of 2005. According to the report it will cover injuries suffered by athletes and members of the public that are deemed the responsibility of the Athoc committee.
Last month the International Olympic Committee purchased a $170m cancellation policy for the Olympic Games. Cancellation fears were eased earlier this week when the first half of the roof of the Olympic Stadium was lowered into place.
