Art and antiques collectors are excellent risks for specialist insurers as they take care of their possessions and are loyal customers, according to AXA Art Insurance.

This was backed up by recent AXA Art research which found that 89% of its clients listed "general prudence" as their main reason for taking out cover.

Chief executive Adam Golder said: "Our clients have high expectations of us as specialists and they have a highly sophisticated approach to risk.

"While they understand the need to protect themselves against theft, and appreciate the speed with which claims can be settled under an agreed-value basis, they would infintely prefer their items to be restored to them."

The survey also questioned clients about concerns - with theft coming out top at 70%, followed closely by fire and water damage.
