“What can a CEO do to warrant those pay packages?”
Henry Engelhardt, the millionaire head of insurance brand Admiral, whro earns £320,000-a-year as chief executive, has criticised high pay packets of insurance bosses, the BBC reports.
Speaking on BBC Radio Four's Today programme, Engelhardt, 51, said he was sometimes shocked at the remuneration offered to fellow top bosses.
He said: "I am a founder-owner of the company, so it's not just my salary which keeps me going, there's food on the table, every night, it's true. But I do think it's amazing when you see some of the pay packages put together.
What does a CEO do?
"What can a [chief executive officer] do to warrant the kind of packages put together compared to the other people working in the organisation? I do think things should be spread about a bit more.
"It's important that people feel a part of the organisation - ownership is part of that - and it shouldn't just be restricted to top management."
Admiral staff are each in line for £1,500 worth of shares in the company.
