Car insurance claims referred to fraud experts, Absolute Customer Management, will now be run through Experian's Car Data Check database, Absolute announced today.

The Car Data Check service contains over 90 million vehicle records including vehicle history, such as outstanding finance, insurance claims, change of ownership and whether the car has been stolen, and specification, such as colour, make and model.

Absolute said that the move will allow its claims experts to cross-check any claim with the Experian system thus “identifying any heightened potential for fraud at the outset of Absolute's claims management process”.

Absolute director Gabrielle Stewart said: “The Car Data Check service has been on trial for several months and we have found it a valuable tool in flagging up claims with a much higher risk of fraud.”

She added: “By running a vehicle through the system as soon as we get the claim information, we can spot previous write-offs, police issues, potential suspicious sales or other indicators that could identify cloned vehicles. This allows us to speed up the whole claims verification process for both our honest and deceptive claimants. At the end of the day this helps us win the battle against the fraudsters.”
