The Association of British Insurers has called on the government to ensure it delivers flood reforms.
Speaking to the Associate Parliamentary Group on Flood Prevention, ABI director general Mary Francis said MP's need to play their part to ensure adequate flood protection for their constituents.
Her comments come as the ABI announced its plan to research future climate change in association with the Environment Agency.
The ABI said that within the next 80 years the risk of flooding will double, while in coastal areas it will increase 20 fold.
Francis added that as the average lifespan of a domestic home was 80 years, it is vital that research is carried out.
