Purchase follows Abbey’s receipt of ABS licence
Legal expenses insurance broker Abbey Protection has bought a controlling stake in Manchester law firm Lewis Hymanson Small (LHS).
The acquisition follows Abbey’s receipt of an alternative business structure (ABS) licence from the Solicitors Regulation Authority, which enables non-lawyers to own law firms. Abbey’s licence came into effect today.
LHS has been trading since March 2007. It has six partners and 18 fee earners. All partners of the firm, including founding partners Ian Lewis and Graham Small, will remain with LHS.
Abbey Protection group managing director Chris Ward said: “We have worked with LHS for a number of years and I am delighted to welcome the practice into the Abbey Protection Group. Throughout the time we have worked together, it has been with a mutual understanding and dedication that puts the client first.”
LHS founding partner Ian Lewis said: “This transaction is an enormous step forward for LHS as it positions us well to take advantage of the opportunities that are constantly arising in this new legal world. We intend to grow the business and move forward together with a strategy that would be impossible for us without external investment and support.”
