History: Formed in 1975, DAS pioneered the legal expenses insurance market in this country. The DAS Group in the UK is itself part of DAS International, the Munich-based parent of legal expenses insurance companies in more than a dozen countries throughout Europe.

Biography: Asplin joined DAS in 1977 as a junior underwriter, and rose through the rapidly growing organisation until he took on the role of chief executive in April 1999, as the DAS Group approached its 25th birthday. He now oversees a group of companies employing more than 500 staff throughout the UK and Ireland, the success of which owes a great deal to his own, personal contribution.
