What is there to complain about this week?
Metal
The government, the police and the ABI are working together to combat the increase in metal thefts. The trade body estimates that the crime costs the economy £770m a year and that there are 1,000 metal thefts a week. ABI director of general insurance Nick Starling said: “From delayed train journeys to loss of telephone and internet connections, most people are affected by this.”
Risky
A survey by consultancy Protiviti reveals that, despite overhauling risk management practices since the financial crisis, many UK insurance firms fail to embrace risk culture, with more than 60% reporting that chief risk officers are absent from boards. Protiviti UK managing director Peter Richardson said: “The attitude seems to be that it is a regulatory requirement, rather than a source of added value.”
