Wade appointed international commercial director of UK-based insurer

Appointment

Gallagher International has hired ex-JLT executive Vyvienne Wade as international commercial director.

She will join the company, a subsidiary of US broking group Arthur J Gallagher, on 9 September.

Wade, JLT’s longest-serving executive director, left her former firm under a cloud in May, complaining about the broker’s “harsh” culture.

In her new role at Gallagher International, Wade will be responsible for driving growth outside the UK and US.

She will also examine wholesale broking opportunities and potential underwriting acquisitions.

Wade will report to Gallagher International chief executive David Ross and will work closely with managing director of international advisory John Durkin and Asia-Pacific chairman John Hastings-Bass.

Ross said: “We continue to invest in the market’s best talent and we are absolutely delighted that a professional of Vyvienne’s calibre has decided to join our organisation, at this crucial phase in our growth.

“She is a tremendously important hire for us, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the geographies in which we are looking to invest.”

On her departure from JLT, Wade sent a letter to JLT chairman Geoffrey Howe complaining about a “harsh” culture and the way in which she learnt of her removal as chief executive for Latin America.

Wade had worked at JLT for more than 26 years.
