Terry Whittaker accepts redundancy
Terry Whittaker, managing director of distribution at QBE’s European operations, has left the company with immediate effect, Insurance Times can reveal.
The departure was prompted by QBE’s plans to shift the management of its UK and Ireland distribution channel to its property, casualty and motor division, which is run by chief underwriting officer Ash Bathia.
This move, combined with the recent appointment of Patrick Coene as managing director of European markets, meant that QBE was unable to find a role for Whittaker and he accepted redundancy.
No other jobs have been affected by the change, but some job titles in the UK distribution division may change.
Whittaker started his insurance career at Syndicate 386 at Lloyd’s in 1979 as a claims trainee, working his way up to operations officer. He joined QBE when it acquired the syndicate as part of its purchase of managing agency Limit in 2000.
He was appointed managing director of QBE’s UK national division, the UK distribution arm of QBE’s European operations in August 2007. He became managing director of distribution for the entire European operations in September 2010.
