Former Broker Network and QBE head joins McManus’s Giles revolution
Giles has completed the capture of Bernard Mageean from Broker Network as managing director of underwriting and wholesale.
Mageean spent just seven months as director of insurance at Towergate-owned Broker Network and previously spent two years at QBE London as the managing director of its property and SME division before making a shock exit.
He has also been director of commercial underwriting at RSA, where he worked under McManus.
At Giles he will work closely with Ink Insurance managing director Mike Smith and wholesale managing director Mark Addis to build the group’s underwriting capabilities.
Mageean said: “I’ve been impressed by the Giles team over recent years and there is an attractive opportunity to take the business to the next level. Alongside which, I’m very much looking forward to working with Brendan again.”
Mageean becomes the second new face to arrive at Giles from Towergate in the past week after the consolidator unveiled Alan McEwan as its new regional managing director for Scotland and Northern Ireland one week ago.
Giles chief executive Brendan McManus said: “I’m delighted to welcome Bernard to the team. His reputation in the market, particularly with capacity providers, is second-to-none and his experience of managing at portfolio level will be very important given current market conditions.
“It gives me great satisfaction to be able to strengthen our team with proven industry professionals like Bernard in what is an exciting time for the company.”
Yesterday, McManus spoke to Insurance Times after revealing the broker’s annual results for 2011.
