Danny Walkinshaw on the latest stories online

There has been considerable online coverage of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig blow-out in the Gulf of Mexico over the last week, and the insurance industry hasn’t escaped the media frenzy surrounding the disaster.

Across the web, Lloyd’s of London’s announcement that its exposure to the leak could reach $600m (£413m) was widely reported, as oil giant BP struggled to plug the hole.

The Wall Street Journal was one of a number of US-based websites that reported how a group of Lloyd’s insurers launched legal action in the USA against BP to try to prevent it from claiming on cover held by Transocean, the operator of the sunken rig.

Another site, AlterNet.org, produced an article titled ‘Ten things you need (but don't want) to know about the BP oil spill’.

At insurancetimes.co.uk, our story speculating that AXA group chief executive Nicolas Moreau is to step down from the French insurer’s UK and Ireland business was the most popular with online visitors, although the company later denied the story.

This was closely followed by news of another UK departure concerning Aviva’s regional broker boss Brigid Murphy – who is returning to Canada, but won’t be linking up with former UK chief executive Igal Mayer, apparently.

Another breaking story – ‘Randall unveils new business Ataraxia’ – made the top ten, while the latest instalment from our mystery blogger Sid also received a fair number of clicks.
