Danny Walkinshaw on the latest stories online
Interim results have crept up on us once again, so it’s no surprise to see major insurers at the top of this week’s Weblog rankings.
Aviva’s third-quarter numbers hit the right note with our online readers.
Our story detailing their progress in the first nine months of the year is this week’s most popular item. Fittingly, news of RSA’s interims follows closely behind.
The last time these two companies appeared together in the top 10 was when RSA made its ambitious £5bn takeover bid for parts of Aviva’s general insurance business.
Those hoping for any hint of a renewed deal (it hasn’t been swept under the carpet just yet), will have been disappointed. Despite this, both insurers report growth, so the results make for interesting reading.
Details of Mapfre’s takeover of Insure and Go are also in our top 10. This story was a surprise for our online readers when it landed in their inboxes. So too was the resignation announcement by Cooper Gay’s UK chief executive Jim Summers.
A Towergate story makes the list for the second week in a row. It again involves people moves, only this time it focuses on two departures to Marsh.
Also among the most-read stories is the FSA dealing a blow to brokers by announcing that its impending review of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme is delayed.
This, of course, gives fresh impetus to our Fair Fees campaign, and you can still sign the petition to give brokers a fairer deal on fees and levies.
