Judge orders broker to pay market's owners over heater row

London-based broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson has been ordered to pay £1.75m to Camden Market’s owners following a fire in 2008, Insurance Times can reveal.

A judge ordered the payout at a hearing earlier this month after JLT failed to keep the market's owners fully informed about an insurer ban on portable heaters.

The fire caused almost £6m of damage to the Canal Market after a portable heater set light to a clothing stall.
