CNA Maritime is a specialist marine insurance company, founded in 1864, based in the UK and a wholly owned subsidiary of CNA.
It underwrites marine insurance in the UK, European and international markets. It gives advice and guidance on marine and transportation insurance.
Maritime Insurance Company was established in Liverpool, a city with a marine insurance market dating from 1750, and incorporated in 1864.
In 1914 the company was bought by Scottish Union & National Insurance Company of Edinburgh, which in turn was acquired by Norwich Union Fire Insurance Limited in 1959 bringing Maritime into the Norwich Union Group.
On December 31, 1992 Maritime's position within the corporate structure of Norwich Union Group was changed and it also became responsible for all of the group's marine insurance business.
On June 30, 1998, ownership of Maritime passed to CNA Financial Corporation through its subsidiary
